8th April: Partners & Honorary Members Night. Rotary Alumni Sue Campin wants to visit her roots. A student of Flatbush Primary, she went on to win a Foundation Scholarship and then on to the UK to study her Masters in Town Planning.
Now a resident of Australia, she wants to visit the closest club to her old school and share how Rotary has impacted her life.
15th April: ClubRunner training. With Mike transferring to RC Pukekohe next year, here's an opportunity to learn how to create bulletins and manage our ClubRunner site
From Mike the EDITOR
The Editor and Mrs Editor both facilitated at Rotary Leadership Institute this weekend. Both were pleasantly surprised to see Allan Mckay from RC Papakura attending. Allan has been around a while and even chaired district committees'. It goes to show that even long term Rotarian's can still learn. It was also great to have his experience in some of the group conversations. If you haven't done RLI yet, I can highly reccommend it.
District Conference on May 10-12 is fast approaching. If you haven't registered yet, here is the pathway to the website.
The Ed cannot make it as he he has a work event overseas, but Mrs Ed is attending and looking to share a story and/or chardonnay with you.
Should be great fun, why don't you add this to this years Rotary activities.

President's Message
Another good attendance meeting together with District Governor Ingrid and Assistant Governor Glynis. Discussion for the last several meetings has centred around the way forward involving District initiatives and supports available.
Ingrid volunteered to attend and was appreciated as this was her second visit to our Club in a busy schedule.
We are now edging closer to a plan which will have the full commitment of all members who have been inclusive in all discussions.
And next week we have as our guest speaker a young woman who wants to speak to Rotary of her accomplishments through the support of Rotary. Be good to hear her story as we do not often , nor do we expect , to hear from those that we have helped make a difference in their lives. This is a Partners night and invitation to Honorary members as well.
Its, a changing and challenging world.
News Brief
Happy 50th Rotaract
Attended by RI President Barry Rassin and RI Directors, a special 'Rotaract Turns 50' conference was held in North Carolina in March.
Impatient Optimists
Sick of reading bad news stories online every day? Then switch over to some great news stories and see the good work that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is doing.
So what does the Editor do when he's not riding Tiger, Fishing or @ Rotary. A wee bit of woodwork. Slowly the workshop is getting upgraded. This weekend for the first time in many weeks, the tools came out. This effort resulted in the Clamp Rack you can see to the right of the tool wall. Held in place with French Cleats, it will be transferrable to a new workshop some time in the future.

Inner Wheel Koru Award
Do you know someone in the local community who has overcome adversity to live a life of serving others?
The Inner Wheel Club of Howick is looking for such a person to present a Dawn Johnston Koru Award to. The inaugural presentation of this award was made last year to Alan Breslau of Half Moon Bay who survived a horrific plane crash 56 years ago followed by many years in hospital. The award was based on the Inner Wheel theme for 2017/2018 ‘Leave a Legacy’
A new Rotary club with innovative ideas
Rtn Daniel Lopez from Pittsburg chartered a new club which seeks like-minded professionals and allows flexibility in weekly meetings, besides giving a slew of liberties to its members.
Being involved with his local Rotary club had always been a rewarding experience for Pittsburg resident Daniel Lopez, but it wasn’t easy making all the lunch meetings and having the time to grow his personal business.
So after serving as president in 2014, he made the tough decision to leave the club to work more on his own business endeavour.
That wasn’t the end of his Rotary story, though.
Last year Daniel decided he wanted to get back and be involved with the Rotary group, but he couldn’t do it on the terms of the local club, so he decided to look for other alternatives.
“I saw what a Rotary club in the Sacramento area was doing and thought we could do something similar here,” Lopez said.
This past December, Daniel started a new Rotary Club programme out of Pittsburg called the Rotary Club of Northern California Gateway, District 5160.
